For Immediate Release
SINGAPORE FLAVOURS – INFLUENCED BY THE CUISINE OF ASIA Extended to 2010
Monday, December 14, 2009 – In Singapore, the food culture renders the expressions “Eat to Live” irrelevant and “Live to Eat” an understatement. In a country where its people truly bask in the joys of having food of various influences, eating has truly evolved into a form of art.
The buffet, which was originally supposed to end its run in December 2009, will now be extended into 2010. It will continue to offer a buffet of local Singapore dishes that have been influenced by its history, its multi-racial population and its geographic location in Asia. Savour the robust flavours, titillating fragrances and vibrant colours of the Peranakans and other Chinese dialect groups – Cantonese, Teochew, Hakka, Hainanese and Hokkien.
To allow diners the opportunity to truly savour an authentic Singapore meal, our team of chefs along with an invited veteran Chef will put together an unforgettable experience that diners can indulge in. From the music and the ornaments to the uniforms of the cafe hosts, Spices Cafe will definitely immerse diners into the realm of an Asian culture.
In support of the Singapore Food Festival ’09 in July, which spotlighted Peranakan Cuisine, we kicked-start our food campaign by engaging renowned local Peranakan cooking expert Baba Jolly Wee to be at the helm of Spices Kitchen. Working and coordinating together with our team of chefs, 82-year-old Baba Jolly will once again pull out his Batu Lesung, tumbuk his rempah, pick up his kuali and agak agak his way into creating those aromatic and authentic dishes you’ve been wanting to try.
For only $25.00++ per person, lunch time Chicken with Buah Keluak, Udang Masak Nanas (Pineapple Prawns), Udang Lemak Belimbing (Prawns with Mini Starfruit), Ikan Asam Pedas (Spicy Fish cooked in Assam gravy, Babi Chin (Braised Pork with Preserved Yellow Beans), Sayur Nangka Masak Lemak (Young Jackfruit in Spicy Coconut Milk), Itek Tim (Duck in Salted Vegetable soup), Bak Wan Kepeting (Crab & Meatballs Soup) and the list go on! Items such as Pork Chop with Onion Sauce, Braised Rice wine chicken, Chilli Crab, Oyster Omelette, Mutton Stew amongst many others are just some of the many local dialect dishes being featured in the buffet.
And as the Bibiks would say, “tak kueh kueh tak puas, lah!” Overdose your sweet cravings with Peranakan desserts like Bubur Terigu (White Wheat Sweet Porridge), Apong Bak Kuah (Pancakes with Banana Sauce), Kueh Dada (Pancakes with Sweet Coconut), Kueh Charah (Nonya Cupcake) and many more authentic home-made Peranakan desserts and kuehs.
